Etymology
From the Japanese 兄弟 (kyōdai きょうだい), from Middle Chinese 兄弟 (xüæng-dèj "brothers"), from Old Chinese 兄弟 (*m̥rang-lˁəjʔ), from 兄 ("elder brother") + 弟 ("younger brother").
Noun
kyodai (plural kyodai)
- The brothers. They are high in rank in the yakuza clan. Their leader is the shatei gashira.
- The "Brother" is a title used in some Christian faiths as reference to any male, as it is regarded that all are brothers and sisters as children of God.
