Etymology
From Proto-Finnic *kakci, From Proto-Finno-Permic *kakta. Final i is a common Baltic-Finnic innovation, by analogy to yksi (“1”). Cognates include Estonian kaks, Northern Sami guokte, Komi-Zyrian кык (kyk). This root is considered to be related to Proto-Ugric *kektä (giving e.g. Hungarian két and Mansi кит (kit)) and Proto-Samoyedic *kitä (giving e.g. Tundra Nenets сидя (śid́a)) of the same meaning, but no regular Proto-Uralic form can be reconstructed.
