ihana
Finnish
Etymology
From Proto-Finnic *iha < Pre-Finnic *iša, which is usually explained as a loanword from Proto-Indo-Iranian *i(s)tsā (“to wish, desire, seek”) (whence Sanskrit इच्छति (icchati)). Derived from the stem iha, from which also the verbs ihastua (“to be delighted”) and ihailla (“to adore”) have been derived. Cognates include Karelian ihastuo, Veps ihastuda, Votic ihassua and Estonian iha.[1]
