Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *gur-, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷerh₃- 'to swallow'. Cognate to Sanskrit गिरति (giráti, “to swallow”). From Albanian ha-n-gura, a suppletive verb, which occurs only in the aorist, the participle and in the tempora and modi based on these stems[1]. Structurally close to Hittite tangarant (“not having eaten”), Lithuanian kanká (“pain”), Old High German hungar (“hunger”).
