From ecclesiastical Greek ἐνθουσιαστής (enthousiastḗs, an enthusiast, a zealot), from ἐνθουσιάζειν (enthousiázein, intransitive be inspired or possessed by a god, be rapt, be in ecstasy, transitive inspire): see enthusiasm.
