From Proto-Germanic *kalzōną (“to call, shout”), from Proto-Indo-European *gal(o)s-, *glōs- (“voice, cry”). Cognate with Old Frisian kella (“to call, name”), Old High German kallōn (“to speak loudly”), Old Norse kalla (“to call, name, shout”), Latin glōria (“fame, honour, glory”). More at glory.
