Etymology

Borrowed from a Turkic language probably before the times of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin (at the turn of the 9th and 10th centuries), from Ottoman Turkish مسلمان‎ (musulman), from Persian مسلمان‎ (mosalmân, “Muslim”), from Arabic مُسْلِم‎ (muslim, “Muslim”). Compare Kyrgyz бусурман (busurman).[1]
