From Proto-Albanian *abula, from Proto-Indo-European *nebʰ-el (compare Latin nebula (“mist, cloud”), Old English nifol (“mist, darkness”), Ancient Greek νεφέλη (nephélē)), from *nébʰes (“cloud”). Compare also Romanian abur. Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *ogʷolmo (cf. German Qualm (“fumes”))[1].
