Originally eastern Finnish, Savo-Karelian Savo Finnish (Savonian dialect of Finnish) surname, possibly from an archaic/dialectal nickname korho (“hard of hearing, deaf”) + -nen or dialectal korho (“proud, rich, upright”). First recorded in the Middle Ages.
