Bure
English
Proper noun
Bure
Anagrams
German
Etymology
Backformation from the Dutch plural Boeren from Boer. The word originally means “farmer” in Dutch but also in several German dialects, which is probably why the form Bur was avoided in German. (The word Bauer, and even more Bur as a dialectal form, may have the pejorative implication of an illiterate person. Compare English boor.)
