Etymology
Ultimately from Proto-Germanic *Aþalaberhtaz, a compound of *aþalaz (“noble”) + *berhtaz (“bright, famous”), through Old English Æþelbeorht. It became popular in 19th century England due to Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
