The suffix -uccio/-uccia stems from Latin -uceum/-uceam.[1] Compare also Sicilian -uzzu, Romanian -uț.

-uccio m (feminine -uccia)
- Diminutive suffix used to form adjectives and nouns. Usually benign, loving, affectionate, or friendly diminutive suffix.
- (pejorative) Suffix with patronizing or pejorative connotations when attached to specific words.
- medico (“doctor”) + -uccio → medicuccio (“quack”)
- femmina (“female”) + -uccia → femminuccia (“cowardly person”)
