  1. (verb-forming suffix) Appended to a noun or verb to form a verb.
    járőr (“patrol”) → járőrözik (“to patrol”)
    üvölt (“to scream, to yell”) → üvöltözik (“to yell repeatedly”)

Usage notes

  • (verb-forming suffix) Harmonic variants:
    -zik is generally added to words ending in a vowel
    -azik is added to some back vowel words
    -ozik is added to back vowel words
    -ezik is added to unrounded front vowel words
    -özik is added to rounded front vowel words
