First attested in 1705. From the -ir ending of German -ieren (“verb-forming suffix”) +‎ -oz.[1]

    kandíroz (“to candy”)

Usage notes

  • Partially productive. Harmonic variants:
    -íroz is added to back vowel words
    -éroz is added to front vowel words
