-è
Catalan
Alternative forms
- (Valencia) -é
Etymology
Pronunciation
Suffix
-è (feminine -ena, masculine plural -ens, feminine plural -enes)
Usage notes
The first four ordinals are irregular, and irregular forms derived directly from the Latin ordinal instead of using this suffix on the modern Catalan cardinal exist for 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 20, 100, and 1000. Ordinals for the powers of 1 000 000 do not use this suffix, but instead use -èsim. Uniquely, novè (“ninth”) can be viewed as either coming from the use of this suffix or directly from the Latin ordinal.
