From Proto-Indo-Iranian *tšayati (“he rules, he has power over”), from Proto-Indo-European *tke- (“to gain power over, gain control over”); akin to Sanskrit क्षत्र (kṣatrá, “might, power”), Avestan 𐬑𐬱𐬀𐬚𐬭𐬀‎ (xšaθra, “kingdom”), Khotanese kṣāra- (kṣāra-, “power, dominion”), Old Armenian loanword աշխարհ (ašxarh) and Ancient Greek κτάομαι (ktáomai, “to get, acquire”).[1]
