Etymology 1

The final -raki may be cognate with the second syllable of 奈良 (Nara) (the name of a city and prefecture located in the Kansai region of Japan) and with the name of the Garak/Gara/Gaya confederacy (a loose confederation of city-states located at the southern tip of the Korean Peninsula in ancient times). Compare also the modern Korean 나라 (nara, country, kingdom), from Middle Korean 나랗 (narah), and modern Korean (ttang, land, ground, territory), from Middle Korean ᄯᅡᇂ (stah), and modern Korean (heuk, earth, soil), from Middle Korean ᄒᆞᆰ (holk).
