ἁρπάζω

See also: αρπάζω

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Unclear. The underlying -αγ stem makes a direct Proto-Indo-European origin difficult. Perhaps related to ἅπτω (háptō, I touch) or ἅρπη (hárpē, bird of prey). Or, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rep-; compare Proto-Germanic *raubōną (to snatch, steal, plunder).[1]
