Etymology
From Old Georgian აგური (aguri), ultimately from Akkadian 𒅇𒆪𒊒𒌝 (agurru, ukurru [Ù.KU.RU.UM])[2][3], the immediate source of borrowing probably being Persian آﮔور (āgūr, “burned brick”)[4][5] (or its Middle Persian antecedent).
For the development of the sense “diamonds” compare Armenian ագուռ (aguṙ, “brick; diamonds”), քյարփինջ (kʿyarpʿinǰ, “brick; diamonds”).
