From แสน (sɛ̌ɛn, “multitudinous”, literally “hundred thousand”) + ปม (bpom, “protuberance; swelling; tumour; etc.”); literally "a great many tumours" or "a hundred thousand tumours"; after Sɛ̌ɛn Bpom, a legendary figure who had undergone such a disorder.
