Etymology
From Sanskrit एकवचन (ekavacana, “singular number”), from एक (eka, “one”) + वचन (vacana, “speech; number”). Equivalent to เอก (èek) + พจน์ (pót). Cognate with Khmer ឯកវចនៈ (’ékâvôchnéa’), Lao ເອກກະພົດ (’ēk ka phot).
