From Sanskrit लेखा (lekhā, “line, streak; stroke, furrow, row, stripe; writing, drawing lines, delineation, painting; etc.”) or Pali lekhā (“streak, line; scratch; writing, inscription, letter; the art of writing or drawing”). Cognate with Lao ເລຂາ (lē khā), Khmer លេខា (leikhaa). Related to เลข (lêek).
