Etymology

From Sanskrit सप्ताह (saptāha, “week; sacrificial period lasting seven days”, literally “seven days”); probably via Old Khmer saptāha (“week; period of seven days”). Cognate with Modern Khmer សប្តាហៈ (sɑɑptaahaʾ). Compare Pali sattāha (“hebdomad; week”), from which Thai สัตตาหะ and Khmer សត្តាហៈ (sɑɑttaahaʾ) were derived.
