From Old Khmer jum, juṃ, juṃm, cuṃ (“about, round; to encircle, to ring, to surround; to group together, to embody, to include, to unite; etc”). Compare Modern Khmer ជុំ (cum), extended as ប្រជុំ (prɑcum), from which Thai ประชุม (bprà-chum) was derived.
