From Sanskrit सरु (saru, “fine, thin”). Cognate with Sylheti ꠢꠥꠞꠥ (huru, “small, little”), Hajong হুৰু (huru), Bishnupriya Manipuri হুরু (huru), Bengali সরু (śôru, “thin, slender, narrow”), Oriya ସରୁ (sôru, “thin”).
