Etymology

From Old Hindi लोग (loga), borrowed from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀮𑁄𑀕 (loga), from Sanskrit लोक (loka). Displaced Old Hindi लोअ (loa).

Use as a plural marker in some dialects is probably generalization of हम लोग (ham log, “us”).
