From Sauraseni Prakrit [Term?] (compare Maharastri Prakrit 𑀫𑀁𑀢 (maṃta)), an extension of Sanskrit मा (mā), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mā, from Proto-Indo-European *meh₁. Cognate to Punjabi ਮਤ (mat).
