From Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰišáĵ, from *bʰiš- (“to heal, to cure”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬠𐬌𐬱𐬀𐬰-‎ (bišaz-), Kurdish bijişk (“doctor”).
