From Old Marathi जाणणे (jāṇaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀚𑀸𑀡𑀇 (jāṇaï), from Sanskrit जानाति (jānāti), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵneh₃- (“to know”). Compare Konkani जाण्चे (zāṇce), Gujarati જાણવું (jāṇvũ), Hindi जानना (jānnā).
