Etymology
Feminine of चित (citá, “piled up”), from Proto-Indo-European *kʷey- (“to pile up”) whence also the verb चिनोति (cinoti). Cognate with Ancient Greek ποιέω (poiéō, “to pile up”) and Old Church Slavonic чинъ (činŭ, “rank, order”).
