From Persian گوشت‎ (gušt), from Middle Persian [script needed] (gosht), from Avestan 𐬔𐬁𐬊‎ (gāo) + 𐬙𐬀𐬥𐬎‎ (tanu). Possibly related to Sanskrit गो (gō, “ox, cow”) + तनू (tanū, “body”).
