From Old Marathi कडू (kaḍū), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀟𑀼 (kaḍu), from Sanskrit कटु (kaṭu). Cognate to Gujarati કડવું (kaḍvũ), Hindi कड़वा (kaṛvā).
