Etymology
From Middle Persian ʾywk' (*ēk, *yak) (Manichaean Middle Persian yk), from Proto-Iranian [Term?] (compare Kurdish yek), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háykas (compare Sanskrit एक (éka), Sanskrit एक (ek), Urdu ایک (ek)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(H)óykos. Compare Old Persian [script needed] (aiva-), Avestan 𐬀𐬉𐬎𐬎𐬀 (aēuua) from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háywas, from the variant Proto-Indo-European form *(H)óywos.
