منبر

Arabic

مِنْبَر

Etymology

By form a tool noun from نَبَرَ (nabara, to raise the voice, to shout); however this derivation is too large a leap, thus it is borrowed from Ge'ez መንበር (mänbär, seat), regularly formed from ነበረ (näbärä, to sit) as Arabic مَجْلِس (majlis) from جَلَسَ (jalasa).
