The indefinite triptote form ثَلَاثَة‎ (ṯalāṯa) is used in compound numbers. The indefinite diptote form ثَلَاثَةُ‎ (ṯalāṯatu) is used when the number stands alone:

‏ثَلَاثَةُ نِصْفُ سِتَّةَ‎ ― ṯalāṯatu niṣfu sittata ― three is half of six
