  • In compounds the word has also the meaning of “exchange” in general, not just “money exchange”.
  • Post-classically used as a prefix corresponding to Ancient Greek μετά (metá), e.g. փոխաբերութիւն (pʿoxaberutʿiwn) = μεταφορά (metaphorá), փոխանցեմ (pʿoxancʿem) = μεταβαίνω (metabaínō).
