Etymology

Borrowed from Iranian *vīkaya. Compare Avestan 𐬬𐬍𐬐𐬀𐬌𐬌𐬀 (vīkaiia), composed of the prefix 𐬬𐬍- (vī-, down) and the root 𐬐𐬀𐬌𐬌- (kaii-, to divide, separate, discern).
