Etymology

From Northwestern Middle Iranian *ōž. Compare Middle Persian ʾwc (ōz, “strength, power”). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ewg-.

1. force, strength, power, vigour, energy, virtue, valour; effort; weight

   յուժոյ ― yužoy ― strongly, vigorously

   ոյժ տալ ― oyž tal ― to force, to make efforts; to give power, to authorize, to favour

   ոյժ առնուլ ― oyž aṙnul ― to gather strength

   նոր ոյժ առնուլ ― nor oyž aṙnul ― to gain new strength, to recover one's strength

   յուժի լինել ― yuži linel ― to be in full vigour, in the prime of strength

   անկանել յուժոյ ― ankanel yužoy ― to feel one's strength failing, to lose strength, to become weakened or enervated

   ի յուժ ձգել ― i yuž jgel ― to harass, to oppress
