հիւանդ
Old Armenian
Etymology
The origin is uncertain; perhaps from Parthian 𐫍𐫏𐫇𐫗𐫅* (hywnd* /hēwand/), from Proto-Iranian *hayawantah, from *hayas (“illness”) + *-wantah (“adjectival suffix”)[1], possibly from Proto-Iranian *hāi- (“to bind”), from Proto-Indo-European *sHēy- (“to bind”). Compare also Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (hyndk'), 𐫟𐫏𐫗𐫅𐫃 (xyndg /xīndag/, “sick, ill”).
