Etymology
Uncertain. Ačaṙyan leaves the origin open.
According to J̌ahukyan, probably from Proto-Indo-European *er-, *eri- (“goat; sheep; cow; doe”) (see Pokorny for this root), whence also որոջ (oroǰ) and երինջ (erinǰ), Ancient Greek ἔριφος (ériphos, “kid”), Latin ariēs (“ram”), Old Irish heirp (“kid”).
