Etymology 1

Martirosyan considers the basic meaning to be “soft lump of flesh; roundish projecting part of the body” developed from the sense “swollen, grown” from Proto-Armenian *bo-, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰuH- (to grow), + -իթ (-itʿ).
