Etymology

According to Martirosyan the basic meaning is ‘a soft lump of something; swelling; a roundish projecting part of the body’ ← ‘swollen, grown’ (compare բլթակ (bltʿak)). He derives the word from *բուլ (*bul), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰuH-l-, from the root *bʰuH- (to grow), + -իթ (-itʿ).
