An Iranian borrowing. Compare Manichaean Parthian [Manichaean needed] (hyrz- /hirz-/, to let, leave, abandon; remit (of sins), establish, appoint), Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (harəzaiti, to dismiss, to let go), Persian هلیدن (hilīdan, to dismiss, to abandon; to let go), هشتن (heštan, to leave, abandon), Sanskrit सृजति (sṛjati, discharge, emit), all ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *selǵ-. The -զ- (-z-) in the derived term համարզակիմ (hamarzakim) has an etymological value.
