Etymology

An old genitive of արեւ (arew), according to Martirosyan going back to Proto-Armenian *areg-i-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂r(e)w-y-ós, the genitive of *h₂réw-ōy- (sun, sunshine), whence արեւ (arew).[1][2][3][4]
