From Proto-Mongolic *silö, probably deriving from or otherwise related with Proto-Turkic *söl (“juice”).
Compare Dongxiang shulie (“broth”), Kazakh сөл (söl) and possible Tungusic cognates such as Nanai чо̄лон (“soup”) and Manchu ᡧᡠᠯᠠ (šula, “juice”).
