From *tögerek "round, circle", from Proto-Turkic *dög ~ *deg ~ *dog (round, circle).

Compare with Tatar түгәрәк (tügäräq), Kazakh төңірек (töñirek), Kyrgyz төгөрөк (tögörök), Uzbek to'garak (curcle), Yakut төгүрүк (tögürük, round).

The noun sense of "hobby group" is semantic loan from Russian кружо́к (kružók).
