From Phoenician 𐤒𐤀𐤓𐤕𐤇𐤀𐤃𐤀𐤔𐤕 (Qart-ḥadašt, “New City”), has the same origin of Καρχηδών (Karkhēdṓn, “Carthage”). Probably also influenced by χαλκός (khalkós, “bronze”).
