Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish ايشيمق (ışımak), from Old Turkic [script needed] (yaşu-, “to shine”),[1] from Proto-Turkic *jạĺ(č)- (“to blaze, flame”), which, according to the controversial Altaic hypothesis, is possibly derived from Proto-Altaic *zi̯oĺa (“to shine, blaze”).[2]
Cognate with Chuvash ҫиҫме (śiśme, “to shine”).
