écharpe
French
Etymology
From Middle French escharpe, escherpe, from Old French escharpe, escherpe, eskerpe, eschreppe, escreppe (“small bag, satchel”), of obscure origin. Perhaps a borrowing from Frankish *skirpa, *skirpja (“basket made of rushes”) (from Latin scirpea) or possibly from Old Norse skreppa (“scrip, bag”).
