This genus has but one 'accepted' species (Govaerts et.al.), which is native to New Zealand and to Australia. The botanists of both NZ and Australia treat Phrygilanthus tenuiflorus as a synonym only. See APNI: Muellerina celastroides and NZ flora: Muellerina celastroides.
